One Thing Only

I’m starting to believe
it might be all right
to not be an expert in any one thing,
one thing only.

I draw with my two hands passably well,
can bake enough to please but not excite,
and can change a flat tire or hang a picture---
straight enough.
Hammer, level and wrench I can use,
as well as needle and thread, spatula,
whiskand plunger.

I do what needs to be done,
adapt and become adept.
I am starting to believe .
I do not have to be well know
nor widely read,
or purchased
or sponsoredto be unique
and successful
and creative.
I am myself,
patched together and
woven through
with bits of crimson,
green and bright blue---
not the sky in any light,
but that deep bright blue of water,
the color seen from inside,
under,deep down,
looking uptoward the surface.
